Directed by California Governor Gavin Newsom, it is now mandated that Californians must wear protective face masks in public or high-risk settings, including when shopping, taking public transit or seeking medical care, after growing concerns that an increase in coronavirus cases has been caused by residents failing to voluntarily take that precaution.
Reported by the LA Times on June 18, "Newsom’s order came a week after Orange County rescinded a requirement for residents to wear masks and as other counties across California were debating whether to join local jurisdictions that had mandated face coverings."
LA County ranks as the #2 county in the US for COVID-19 cases in the US according to the Johns Hopkins University & Medicin data center with over 72,800 reported cases.
The recently implemented directive from California may bot be an isolated action. Multiple states in the USA reporting increased new cases of COVID-19 in the last two weeks and the controversial issue being navigated at the State level. We have also seen entire countries like Spain implementing similar directives for public safety due to COVID-19 precautions.
The fact remains that there is a pandemic level virus that is still active and no vaccine currently available.
